This directory contains SPT-SZ + Planck Compton-y maps for the Frontier Field clusters A2744 and AS1063. These maps were made from targeted observations and CMB field observations with the SPT-SZ camera, combined with Planck data using the technique described in Bleem et al. (2022, ApJS 258:36). The data are stored in two files, one for each cluster (ymap_spt_planck_a2744_smooth_0p8_1p3_v1.fits and ymap_spt_planck_as1063_smooth_0p8_1p3_v1.fits). Each file contains a 1440x1440x6 data cube. Each 1440x1440 grid is a 3-degree-by-3-degree map of the cluster field with 7.5-arcsec pixels. The maps are apodized (tapered) with a window that is a 30-arcmin-diameter disk with a cosine taper around it---hence, integrated quantities will only be meaningful out to a 15-arcmin radius. The six maps have six different PSFs, ranging from 0.8 arcmin (FWHM Gaussian) to 1.3 arcmin. All maps are in units of Compton y parameter. The noise rms for the different PSFs are as follows (in units of Compton y times 10^6): map rms for PSF FWHM of: cluster 0.8' 0.9' 1.0' 1.1' 1.2' 1.3' A2744 30 6.5 3.8 3.3 3.1 2.9 AS1063 27 5.8 3.4 2.9 2.7 2.6 As you can see, the lower-resolution maps are much less noisy (because the SPT 150 GHz beam is roughly 1' FWHM, so for resolutions finer than that, we are effectively deconvolving the SPT beam and elevating the noise). In addition to the Gaussian smoothing, these maps have been very mildly high-pass filtered in the R.A. direction. We have simulated the effect of this filtering on the integrated Y from clusters of similar mass and redshift as these two and found it to be less than 5% at integration apertures ranging from 1 to 10 arcminutes. If you are interested in integrated Y at higher than this level of precision, we can provide you with a table of filtering bias as a function of aperture. The astrometry in these maps is registered using bright point sources in the AT20G survey (Murphy et al. 2010), which is tied to VLBI and has an absolute accuracy of ~1".
